The incarnate divine Shakti has to inevitably run the race against the formidable Antagonist, and nothing is taken for granted. There are three powers of the cosmos to which all things are subject—creation, preservation and destruction; whatever is created lasts for a time, but then begins to crumble down. The taking away of the Force of destruction implies a creation that will not be destroyed but last and develop always. In the Ignorance destruction is necessary for progress—in the Knowledge, the Truth-creation, the law is that of a constant unfolding without any pralaya. The Force of destruction implies a creation that will not be destroyed but last and develop always—Shiva is the God of Destruction in the Trinity of Puranic mythology and so also proves to be the Lord of Transformation, as the Mother said. Savitri’s task is to bring down into manifestation this Being of Transformation. For that she is dropping the mantle and is poised to run the race. In it is the race between Hell and Heaven.
